After selling in the U.S. for nearly seven decades, Volkswagen has decided to "squash" it's iconic Beetle by ending production in the summer of 2019.
I'm sad! I can remember one of my brother's friends owning a cherry red Beetle back in the 80s and the whole neighborhood thought it was so cool. And I can't recall a single road trip, be it long or just to town and back, without my brother and I yelling "Slug-bug!" and playfully punching each other if we spotted a Beetle along the way. I'm sure you've played that game yourself once or twice :-)
Although Volkswagen hasn't made plans to revive production of the Beetle again, they aren't necessarily ruling out that idea. Hinrich Woebcken, VW of America CEO said in a statement, "I would never say never." (Fingers crossed!)
